Keep your Indonesian phone number active while abroad

Keep an Indonesian number active abroad by reading Telkomsel's terms in the order the bullets are printed: an active period that cannot exceed 365 days, a 30-day grace if that period ends or the SIM is off the Telkomsel network for 90 consecutive days, and then a block bullet that gives 60 days to unblock. Open the Telkomsel card. The grace bullet says you cannot use the internet, make calls or send SMS, and that you can still top up.

How long can the active period run?

The cap is 365 days, and it follows the denomination you bought. Telkomsel's terms, checked 8 October 2026, state: "Masa aktif yang berlaku mengikuti masa aktif per denominasi saldo pulsa dan/atau paket data yang tertera pada deskripsi produk dan tidak dapat melebihi 365 hari."

The active period follows the active period of each credit denomination and/or data package printed on the product description, and it cannot exceed 365 days. Top up or buy a package before that period ends if you want the card to keep working. A separate bullet on the same page says a SIMPATI prepaid SIM that has passed its validity will not be active and the credit shown on it cannot be used again, and that the SIM can be reactivated on your own or through Telkomsel's official channels if it meets Telkomsel's criteria. That bullet is not the grace period below.

When does the 30-day grace start?

The grace starts from the end of the active period, and the trigger is either that ending or 90 consecutive days off the network. The same terms state: "Apabila masa aktif Kartu SIM berakhir atau selama 90 hari secara berturut-turut Kartu SIM tidak terhubung ke jaringan Telkomsel, maka Kartu SIM akan memasuki periode masa tenggang selama 30 hari sejak masa aktif berakhir. Pada periode ini, Anda tidak dapat mengakses internet, melakukan panggilan telepon, dan mengirim SMS. Namun, Anda dapat melakukan isi ulang saldo pulsa, penggunaan minimal saldo pulsa, dan/atau membeli paket telepon/SMS/data/perpanjangan masa aktif agar kartu dapat aktif kembali."

If the SIM's active period ends, or for 90 consecutive days the SIM is not connected to the Telkomsel network, the SIM will enter a grace period of 30 days from the end of the active period. In that period you cannot access the internet, make calls or send SMS. You can still top up, use a minimum balance, and/or buy a call, SMS, data or active-period extension package so the card can be active again. What happens when the grace ends?

The next bullet says the SIM and the remaining credit cannot be used, and it releases Telkomsel from compensation claims. The same terms state: "Dengan berakhirnya masa tenggang, Kartu SIM beserta sisa saldo pulsa, volume/kuota paket, dan/atau POIN yang ada di dalamnya tidak dapat digunakan kembali dan Anda membebaskan Telkomsel dari tuntutan ganti rugi dalam bentuk apa pun."

When the grace ends, the SIM together with the remaining credit, the package quota and/or the POIN in it cannot be used again, and you release Telkomsel from any compensation claim. Do the top-up in the previous bullet before that ending if the card still matters.

What is the 60-day unblock?

The following bullet is a block period, and it gives 60 days from the number being blocked. The same terms state: "Pada periode masa blokir, Kartu SIM Anda dapat digunakan kembali dengan melakukan mekanisme buka blokir. Jika Anda tidak melakukan buka blokir dalam 60 hari sejak nomor terblokir, maka nomor Anda tidak dapat digunakan kembali."

In the block period, your SIM can be used again by the unblock mechanism. If you do not unblock within 60 days from the number being blocked, your number cannot be used again. Unblock inside the 60 days counted from the number being blocked. A twelve-month holding price is unverified. The 365 days are a cap on the active period, not a price.
