Keep your o2 number active while abroad
Keep an o2 Germany prepaid number active abroad: product page use every 6 months, AGB 6.3 a consume window, 3 months after deactivation to collect remainder.

Keep an o2 Germany prepaid number active abroad by reading two six-month clocks. The product page keeps the SIM with use. The July 2026 AGB 6.3 lets the customer consume Guthabenkonto credit.
The product page's six months
The prepaid product page states the SIM clock: "Deine SIM bleibt aktiv, solange du sie mindestens alle 6 Monate nutzt - entweder durch Aufladen oder eine kostenpflichtige Aktion (z. B. Anruf). Nach Deaktivierung hast du 3 Monate Zeit, dein Restguthaben auszahlen zu lassen." Use at least every 6 months, by a top-up or a chargeable action such as a call. After deactivation, 3 months to have remaining credit paid out.
The prepaid FAQ, dated 24 September 2026, repeats the keep-alive on a second o2 page: "Du musst mindestens alle 6 Monate dein Guthaben aufladen oder dein Handy z. B. für ein Telefonat verwenden, um die Karte aktiv zu halten." That FAQ also says activity windows vary by provider, and that the provider's AGB is where the rule sits.
180 days is arithmetic from those six months. The product page prints 6 months.
AGB 6.3 is a consume window
The prepaid AGB, Stand Juli 2026, states 6.3: "Der Kunde kann das gesamte auf dem Guthabenkonto befindliche Guthaben für einen Zeitraum von jeweils 6 Monaten ab Übertragung verbrauchen. Mit jeder neuen Übertragung von Guthaben auf das Guthabenkonto wird der 6-Monats-Zeitraum für das gesamte auf dem Guthabenkonto befindliche Guthaben neu gestartet." That is a window to consume the credit on the Guthabenkonto from each transfer. A new transfer restarts the window for the whole pile.
6.5 of the prepaid AGB is the payout at contract end: "Ein bei Beendigung des Vertrages positiver Saldo auf dem Guthabenkonto wird auf Antrag des Kunden auf ein von ihm zu benennendes Bankkonto ausgezahlt. Der Antrag bedarf der Textform."
Bonus is a third pile. 6.8 of the same AGB states: "Der auf dem Bonuskonto befindliche Bonusbetrag verfällt, wenn die letzte Verbuchung eines Bonusbetrages auf dem Bonuskonto mehr als 6 Monate zurück liegt. Ein bei Vertragsbeendigung auf dem Bonuskonto noch vorhandener Bonusbetrag verfällt." Paid Guthabenkonto credit shares 6.5's payout sentence. Bonus shares 6.8's expiry sentence.
8.1 of the prepaid AGB runs the contract for an indefinite term: "Der Vertrag läuft auf unbestimmte Zeit. Er kann vom Kunden jederzeit und von Telefónica Germany mit einer Frist von 30 Tagen gekündigt werden." Thirty days is Telefónica's notice. The remainder right under TKG 64 sits under both of these files. Vodafone's 90-day help page is a different clock.
Before you fly
- Count from the last use the product page names: a top-up or a chargeable action, at least every 6 months.
- Treat AGB 6.3 as a consume window for Guthabenkonto credit, a separate six months from the SIM sentence.
- After deactivation, the product page gives 3 months to collect remainder. AGB 6.5 pays a positive Guthabenkonto balance on request, in text form, at contract end.
- Read 6.8 as bonus expiry. Paid credit on 6.5 is the other account.
- The number on this card is o2 prepaid in Germany.
