Keep your Koodo number active while abroad

Koodo prepaid suspends without a base plan, then cancels after 90 days, or 58 days if a new activation is not renewed after the first 30.

Checked against official pages on September 28, 2026. Rules move; when this one does, it goes on the changelog.

Koodo prepaid is a base plan or it is suspended. The March 2026 terms do not keep the line on leftover credits alone.

Suspended without a base plan

The prepaid terms put it in one sentence: "Service is suspended if you do not have an active base plan." Base plans expire after thirty days or up to one year depending on the plan selected, and they renew automatically if there are sufficient credits. The suspend sentence does not describe incoming calls or texts during that state.

Ninety days, or fifty-eight for a new line that is not renewed

The same terms then cancel: "After ninety days without an active base plan (reduced to fifty-eight days for any new activations that are not renewed after the first thirty days of service), service is cancelled, your account is deactivated permanently, and you will lose your number." Ninety days is the ordinary wait without a base plan. Fifty-eight days is the reduced wait for new activations that are not renewed after the first thirty days of service. They are two cases. Prepaid service credits are non-refundable.

The prepaid plans help page restates the same split. Its unpaid-account FAQ uses the same fifty-eight-day reduction, then: "we deactivate your account and you lose your phone number." Remaining funds and add-ons are lost on that page's renewing section. If the plan is not renewed when it expires, prepaid service is suspended until you top up and purchase a plan again.

chatr's day 58 is a new account that is still inactive after the Activation Date. Koodo's fifty-eight is a new activation that is not renewed after the first thirty days. The Wireless Code's seven-day top-up floor sits under both clocks on the Canada page.

Before you fly

  • An active base plan is what the terms treat as service. Credits without a plan are not that sentence.
  • If the line is a new activation and the first thirty days are not renewed, count fifty-eight days, not ninety.
  • Otherwise count ninety days without an active base plan.
  • Remaining credits and add-ons are lost at deactivation on the help page's wording. They are not a published year-long hold.
